NEW BERLIN -- New York State Police are investigating the shooting death of six horses in Chenango County.

Police say a 75-year-old upstate New York man has been charged with fatally shooting six of his neighbor's horses after they wandered onto his property.

Lauren McMaster, 75, is charged with six counts of criminal mischief and six counts of animal cruelty.

The horses were found on a property adjacent to Hunts Pond Road in the Town of New Berlin, 50 miles southeast of Syracuse.

McMaster is accused of shooting the six horses with a 12-gauge shotgun, according to police.

Police say he and the horse's owner had a long-standing dispute over the neighbor's horses and cows wandering onto McMaster's property.

McMaster was arraigned and sent to the Chenango County Jail on $500 cash/$1,000 bond.
