'Community' event covers much of CNY
Thousands of people and even more pancakes, under the tents at Shoppingtown next Saturday
DeWitt's Rotary is set for its big annual fundraiser: the tents are going up in the lot behind Shoppingtown, and before light on Saturday, May 12th they'll fire up the griddles and start turning out thounsands of pancakes. They'll feed thousands between 7am and 3pm.
Mark Stroedel, part of DeWitt Rotary's steering committee for Pancake Day, says the moneys earned help support Rotary's community projects, including DeWitt's fire department and library, but the club's definition of 'community' goes far beyond DeWitt's boundaries. Funding also goes to regional organizations, like the Alzheimer's Association and Meansl on Wheels.
Besides being a fundraiser, the breakfast, about to be in its 58th year, is also a community event, with lots of 'celebrity' cookers and servers, and people from all over sharing a breakfast under the canvas tents behind the Shoppingtown Mall.
