CLEVELAND, OSWEGO CO. -- Firefighters were called to a manufacturer in Cleveland, on the north shore of Oneida Lake, on Sunday morning.
The smoky fire at United Wire Technologies was reported at 9:20 a.m. and was under control two hours later, though firefighters were still on the scene early Sunday afternoon.
Cleveland Fire Chief Carl Avery said a worker running a saw at the plant noticed the fire near the machine shop and called 911.
United Wire is on State Route 49. Its website says it was founded in 1994, and it manufactures and sells insulated wire for guitar strings and the aerospace industry.
James Ransom co-owns United Wire with his two sons and a partner in New Jersey. He says he's looking for another property in the area to resume operations.
Fifteen departments joined Cleveland firefighters. They drew water from Oneida Lake to fight the flames.
No one was hurt. The cause remains under investigation.
