An apartment at 443 Gifford Street in Syracuse caught fire Wednesday morning.
SYRACUSE -- A two-story apartment building caught fire Wednesday morning.
The apartment building is located at 443 Gifford Street in Syracuse.
Officials say the fire was in the basement, which presented a unique problem for firefighters. The only access the firefighters had to the fire was from the staircase, they could not access the apartment though a window. They had to shoot water down the staircase to put out the fire.
Officials say the fire got into the floorboards and smoke was pouring out of the chimney.
There were two occupants in the building at the time of the fire. They both got out of the building safely before firefighters arrived.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
