SYRACUSE -- Animal cruelty investigators in Syracuse are dealing with another troubling case of abuse.

Syracuse City Code workers found Destiny, the one-year-old pit bull, at a home on Benedict Avenue malnourished and with a skin condition called mange.

They were serving an eviction notice to the dog’s owner, 34-year-old Eyisha Bennett.

She told investigators she found the dog as a stray two months ago, but did not want to care for it.

“What were you doing?” said CNY SPCA Executive Director Paul Morgan.  “That's my big question.  If you find an animal and decide to take on that responsibility to bring it into your property and feed it and care for it for a two month period, you become responsible for that animal.”

Bennett now faces two misdemeanor charges for not providing food or proper medical care.

Destiny, given that name by the CNY SPCA, is undergoing treatment on her skin and should be up for adoption in the next couple of months.
