MANLIUS -- The Manlius swan Faye, who had her eggs stolen and destroyed last month, is nesting again.

Last month, her eight eggs were stolen from Manlius Swan pond and destroyed.

So far, Faye has layed one egg. She could lay up to one egg every other day while nesting. Last time she had a total of eight eggs.

On Friday, Manlius DPW workers installed a fence around the nesting area to give Manny and Faye more privacy. Volunteers have also formed a Swan Pond Patrol that will help keep the eggs safe. The Manlius mayor said video surveillance is also being installed.

The community in Manlius was devastated by the loss of Faye's last eggs and had chipped in to generate a hefty reward of about $9,250 for information that led to the suspect’s arrest.

The Dazzle Store just down the street from the swan pond began selling "Save Our Swans" t-shirts and hats for $15 with all the money going to the reward for information in the case. The store said it will continue to sell the shirts and hats even if the reward money is claimed with 100% of the money going to efforts to keep the swans safe.

Ross B. Leone, 23, was arrested for stealing the eggs and smashing them on a side talk and wall after he had allegedly been drinking.
