SYRACUSE -- Dozens of people were trying to create a new green space for children at the Syracuse Boys & Girls Club.

Over 30 National Grid workers and Tim Horton's teamed up to plant trees and shrubs along Fayette Street today.

The goal was to give children a new place to rest and relax and to learn a valuable life lesson.

Melanie Littlejohn, the National Grid Regional Director, says, "It teaches them two things, one being stewards of the environment, and two that the adults of the community really do care about them."

This was just one of seven earth day events planned out by National Grid.

For its efforts, the state DEC gave the company an award from the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizing its work to protect trees.
