SYRACUSE -- It’s been nearly a year and a half since 20-month-old Rashaad Walker, Jr. was killed in a gang retaliation shooting, and the man found responsible was sentenced Tuesday morning.

22-year-old Saquan Evans was sentenced to 25 years to life for murdering Rashaad Walker, Jr. in November 2010. He was additionally sentenced to 15 consecutive years for weapons charges. The jury found Evans guilty of second degree murder in March.

Police say Evans is a member of the Bricktown Gang and was searching for someone from the rival 110 Gang the night of the shooting. Police believe the toddler’s father was the intended target.

Evans still faces federal charges in a separate shooting incident that also occurred in November 2010. The incident left four injured on Shirley Drive.
