WATERLOO -- State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident in Waterloo.

Police say it happened on Route 5/Route 20/Waterloo Geneva Road, between Brewer Road and Packwood Road.

They say the victim was a man found lying on a road just after midnight Monday. There are few details about how he was killed, but Troopers say he was likely hit by one vehicle while walking on or alongside State Routes 5 and 20.

Police say they have located the vehicle involved in the accident. A search warrant was conducted to collect forensic evidence that may assist investigators to identify the operator.

Police are attempting to locate any witnesses that were in the area at the time. The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of family members.

The investigation is ongoing.
