NEW BERLIN -- The Chobani Greek yogurt plant in New Berlin, Chenango County, was evacuated due to an ammonia leak Monday morning.

According to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, the leak was reported around 9am and the plant was evacuated while the leak was contained.

In a statement from Chobani, spokesperson Nicki Briggs says, "Once the site was cleared and controlled, onsite investigation revealed that the leak resulted from an error made by a contractor while working on an AC line in the chill tunnel."

Two employees were sent to UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital for precautionary evaluations. According to Chobani, "both have been released in good health and no other injuries have been reported."

Officials say the leak was minor.
