VERNON, ONEIDA CO. (AP) -- State police are trying to determine when a fatal motorcycle accident happened in Oneida County.
Police say a passing motorist reported the accident around 9:00 a.m. Monday when he came upon a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle in the road and the body of the rider nearby. Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Van Williams of Creek Road in Oneida.
Police say Williams apparently had been heading east at an unsafe speed, went off the shoulder of the road and struck two trees. The accident happened on Barr Road in the town of Vernon, about 30 miles east of Syracuse.
Police say the victim's family last heard from him Saturday afternoon and had been looking for him. The investigation into the crash is continuing.
