SYRACUSE -- An overnight standoff at 105 Byrne Place ended Tuesday morning when the Syracuse SWAT team took an armed woman into custody.

Syracuse Police say they responded to 105 Byrne Place around midnight Tuesday.

It was reported to police that two rifles were pointing out of a second floor window and that the home was occupied by two "emotionally disturbed persons."

Police say when they arrived at the home, they spotted a rifle sticking out of the second floor window. They ordered the person to drop the weapon. The suspect complied and dropped the .22 caliber rifle out of the window.

Officers say they ordered everyone out of the house and two women exited, but a 45-year-old woman refused to leave.

The women who left the house told police that the remaining woman was still armed with a rifle, which was later found to be a realistic looking BB rifle. Officers and negotiators worked for hours to convince the woman to come out of the house, but she refused.

The Syracuse Police SWAT team was then called to the scene. At about 6:15 a.m., after six hours of failed attempts to negotiate, the SWAT team made a stealth entry and took the woman into custody.

Police spokesperson Sgt. Tom Connellan says some neighbors in the immediate area were also evacuated from their homes. He says police "have a history at that house" because of the "emotionally disturbed persons."

Neighbors told CNY Central that police come to this house regularly, and in this particular case SWAT team members entered neighboring homes to evacuate residents.

South Salina Street was closed between East Cheltenham Road and East Seneca Turnpike while the standoff took place.

Police say the woman was taken to Upstate University Hospital for medical and psychological evaluation. Her name is not being released at this time and she has not been charged with any crimes.

All roads are now open and the scene has now been cleared.

The case is still under investigation.
