SYRACUSE -- In Syracuse leaders were taking a close look at security along the Creekwalk Wednesday morning.
The walkway connecting the city with Onondaga Lake opened last October. There have not been many issues along the trail so far.
With warmer weather, more people are using the Creekwalk, which increases safety.
"Given what we're doing as far as patrols and lighting and those sorts of issues, in addition to all the people who are using it, when you have a lot of people out there on the Creekwalk, that gives a sense of security and that's partly why things are going well so far," says Andrew Maxwell, Syracuse Director of Planning.
Now the city of Syracuse is looking at adding a better sign system to the walkway to help people find the Creekwalk. New signs would also show people where they are along the trail.
The Creekwalk spans from West Jefferson Street in Armory Square to Onondaga Lake. It's a 2.6 mile trail that city officials hope will attract more people to the area. The project has been in the works since 2008 with construction beginning in 2009.
The Creekwalk was a $10,149,154 project that includes green infrastructure, incorporating porous asphalt pavement for parking areas, flexible porous pavement, porous concrete pavement and rain gardens.
