AUBURN -- A former Auburn police officer is on trial again.

Monday was the first day of the Brian Hutchings trial in Cayuga County Surrogate Court. Hutchings is accused of taking money from the Auburn Police Benevolent Association while he served as treasurer. Investigators say he stole $3,000 between 2001 and 2008. He was indicted on several charges, including grand larceny.

Both sides made their opening statements and testimony began Monday. This is a bench trial, so the verdict will be up to the judge.

Hutchings was also convicted last year of taking bribes from contractors. He was sentenced to one to three years in state prison in that case.
