LAKE GEORGE (AP) -- Tens of thousands of motorcyclists are heading to a popular Adirondack resort town for the 30th Americade, billed as the world's largest touring rally.

The annual event opens Tuesday and runs through Saturday in the village of Lake George, 55 miles north of Albany.

Organizers say as many as 50,000 bikers will attend the rally, which attracts riders from across North America. Most of them arrive on touring motorcycles made by such companies as Harley-Davidson, Honda and BMW.

The event includes guided tours of the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains in neighboring Vermont, along with trade shows and motorcycle demonstrations.

The first Americade was held in Lake George in 1983. The event pumps tens of millions of dollars into the local economy each year.
