SYRACUSE -- A local child had the ride of his life this morning after police say he drove off with his family’s car and nearly hit a church down the street.
According to Syracuse Police Sgt. Gary Bulinski, around 7:42 a.m. Wednesday morning Onondaga County 911 received a call about a crash in front of St. Anthony of Padua Church, at the intersection of West Colvin Street and Midland Avenue. Police say a 2002 Dodge Intrepid had jumped the curb and struck a tree in front of the church.
Upon investigation, police say they learned that a six-year-old boy had taken the keys to his family’s car and driven about a half of a block before he drove off of the road and stopped in front of the church.
Police say no one was injured in the crash, and the car was not damaged aside from a flat tire. The church building itself was not hit.
No tickets have been issued.
