Children and Teens welcome to join in
Here's the theme for this year's summer reading at area public libraries
School is almost out for the summer, and the area's public libraries are launching their summer reading programs.
Participants, children or teens, sign up for free and choose the books they read. There's a 'report' (not really a test) to do for each completion, and there are prizes (like free ice cream and events tickets).
And besides the instant prizes, Amanda Travis, with the Onondaga County Public Library system, says the summer reading program keeps young minds active and retaining the classroom knowledge that's so often lost over the summer.
For information, you can go to the Onondaga County Public Library website, and if you're not in this county it will refer you, or go to the www.summerreadingnys.org statewide site.
We at CNYCentral are pleased to also contribute to the summer reading effort through our Book Breaks, now in their 26th year. On-air staffers will be reading at seventeen area libraries, starting June 26th. We'll post the list shortly.
