SYRACUSE (AP) -- Authorities say a northern New York postmaster stole more than $51,000 in money orders to feed a heroin addiction.

The U.S. Attorney's office says 30-year-old Andrea Lynch of Clayton pleaded guilty Monday to a felony count of misappropriating postal funds.

U.S. Attorney Richard Hartunian says Lynch admitted embezzling 231 money orders. She was postmaster in Theresa, LaFargeville and Fishers Landing, all in Jefferson County.

The investigation started in August 2010 when review of records at the Theresa office found numerous money orders processed after the date they were cashed.

Lynch faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000 when she is sentenced Nov. 9.

A phone listed in her name is disconnected. It could not be learned if she has a lawyer.
