SYRACUSE -- The Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse is welcoming a couple of new additions.

Todd and Vixey are now on display at the zoo. They are the first fennec foxes born at Syracuse’s zoo in 20 years. They were born on April 21.

"It has been 21 years since we’ve had fennec foxes born at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo," said Ted Fox, Rosamond Gifford Zoo Director. "This is a particularly exciting birth, as this is a species that struggles with reproduction. We are thrilled to have a success story."

These fun furry creatures are endangered and the births at the zoo were part of a species survival plan.

"They are about 2/3rds grown they look like a miniature version of the adults, a little bit more active, a little bit more playful you can tell they are young just by looking at them," says Fox.

Fox says the parents, Rhiona and Copper, are in a private exhibit right now.

Workers are hoping the pair will have a second litter of pups.
