Some big news from the Today Show. Co-anchor Ann Curry announced she would be taking a new role inside NBC news that will include reporting for today, the NBC Nightly News, Rock Center and other primetime shows.

She said goodbye to fans on the Today Show this morning as she moves into her new position.

"Today is going to be my last morning as a regular co-host of Today. I will still be a part of the TODAY show family, but I'm going to have a new title and a new role. And this is not as I expected to ever leave this couch after 15 years, but I am so grateful especially to all of you who watch. Because Matt and I and everyone who sits on this couch often call ourselves a family,” said Curry.

“But you are the real Today Show family. You are why I have ventured into dangerous places and interviewed dictators and jumped out of planes and off bridges and climbed mountains and landed in the South Pole and convinced the Dalai Lama to come live in our studio. I have loved you and I have wanted to give you the world and I still do,” Curry continued.

“They are giving me some fancy new title which essentially means I'm going to get tickets to every big story we want to cover with a terrific team of my choosing… We're gonna go all over the world and all over this country at a time when this country and this world needs clarity. We're going to do great work I hope and we're being given the chance to do the work most of us got into to journalism to do. And these stories are going to air on all the platforms of NBC News including here on Today," concluded Curry.

Matt Lauer said to Curry: "You have the biggest heart in the business. You put it on display every single day in this studio and you have for almost 20 years on this show. The way you care about people comes through in every single story you report.”

Curry joined the show 15 years ago as the news anchor. She became co-host last June when Meredith Vieira left.

No replacement for Curry has been officially announced yet.

You can watch the today show every morning at 7am, right after today in Central New York from 5am until 7am on NBC-3.
