State Trooper Amanda Anna passed away on May 25th from an on-duty crash.
FAIR HAVEN -- Dozens of Fair Haven neighbors turned out to the Fair Haven Pavilion Park on Thursday night to remember State Trooper Amanda Anna . The 31-year-old passed away on May 25th in an on-duty crash.
Her parents, Flo and Frank Wallace, had the idea for the memorial picnic and were overwhelmed by the community's support. "I'm in awe," said Frank Wallace. "I think it's a wonderful thing that the community is doing. It's a memorial to and a tribute to Amanda. And what she would love would be a community picnic."
Flo's mother is also pleased with the community's response. "It makes you feel like you are truly part of a big family," said Flo Wallace. "Everybody is ready to help everybody else around here. There's always a hand out and a hand up. You're not by yourself."
Amanda's neighbors and friends also have fond memories of the state trooper. "Everybody I knew that knew her liked her," said friend Nancy Webster. "She was a very sweet girl."
"We really miss her," said local musician and friend Dan Duggan. Duggan played at Amanda's funeral mass. Amanda and her four-year-old son Ethan used to attend Duggan's local concerts.
In addition to her young son, Amanda left behind her fiance. Last month, some 1,400 police officers, friends and family attended her funeral services.
