CICERO -- Every summer Madison King, Owen Greco, and his little sister, Nadia, sell lemonade.
Usually the kids keep the money but this year, the two eight-year-olds and one six-year-old decided to do something else with their profits.
Owen Greco says all proceeds from this year's lemonade sale will be donated to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a non-profit charity that funds more than 200 childhood cancer research projects a year.
"I hope that we get enough money so that they find a cure for childhood cancer. I feel bad for the kids who have it," Owen says.
Alex's Lemonade stand was started by Alexandra "Alex" Scott, an eight-year-old girl who eventually lost her battle with cancer.
Madison's mom, Lisa, says when it comes to money for cancer research every cent counts.
"Cancer effects everybody's family whether it is family or friends we've all been affected by this horrible disease. So I just thought it was really important to raise money if we could stop one more person from being affected by this disease we definitely thought it would be worth it."
Owen, Madison and Nadia have already raised more than $100.
No matter how much lemonade they end up selling, Erin Greco says her kids have already learned a valuable lesson.
"We were handing out flyers and Owen was saying to the neighbors, 'Wouldn't it be great if we could find a cure for cancer? Maybe some day I'll do research to help find a cure,'" she says.
The lemonade stand will be open on Rollercoaster Drive in Cicero, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
