MALONE (AP) -- A 29-year-old Plattsburgh man admits he tried to kill a romantic rival by beating him with a crowbar.
The Plattsburgh Press-Republican reports that Daniel DeCarlo II pleaded guilty in Franklin County Court Wednesday to attempted murder, assault and burglary. He'll be sentenced to 14 years in prison as part of a plea deal.
DeCarlo admitted he beat 32-year-old Jeffrey Durant last June in Malone because Durant was dating his ex-girlfriend. Two accomplices had previously taken plea deals and agreed to testify against DeCarlo.
After the attack, state police found DeCarlo in the men's locker room at a nearby golf course, soaking wet and wearing a trash bag over his head like a poncho. He told police he'd been fishing and fell in.
