CICERO -- Two people escaped a house fire early Thursday morning. The fire had to be put out twice after it rekindled hours later.

The Cicero Fire Department responded to a house fire on Sutton Drive around 1:00am Thursday morning.

Fire officials say the fire broke out in the garage and quickly spread to the second floor.

Officials say there were reports of people trapped in the house. When they arrived, they found the people had made it to the roof and were rescued by passers by.

Fire officials returned to the home just after 6:30am to conduct a status check and found a fire had rekindled in the garage. It took 40 minutes to put the fire out.

No one was injured in the fire. The cause is under investigation.
