UTICA -- A Utica woman who police say was so drunk she couldn't finish a sentence was arrested this week for allegedly neglecting her children.
According to Utica Police, around 9:35 p.m. Tuesday officers responded to a report of a 'domestic incident' at a home on the 900 block of Sunset Avenue. Police say when they arrived, they learned that the husband of 35-year-old Tonya James had returned home from a hospital stay to find his wife 'highly intoxicated' in their bedroom. Police say Mrs. James had failed to take care of the couple's one-year-old and nine-year-old children.
Police say Mrs. James is accused of failing to care for her children all day, including not feeding them. The husband says this is not the first time this has happened, and it is 'an ongoing issue'.
Police also say that when they attempted to talk to Mrs. James about the alleged neglect, she was so drunk that she 'couldn't speak in full sentences'.
James is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Police say the Child Protective Services office has been notified of the incident.
