19 years old Joseph Rogala from Lamson Road was killed
A Phoenix teen is dead after running his motorcycle into the side of a truck which was making an illegal u-turn on Sunday morning
Onondaga County Sheriff's investigators have now identified the victim in Sunday morning's fatal motorcycle-truck crash as 19 year old Joseph Rogala, of 1799 Lamson Road. And, they have ticketed the tractor trailer driver for several road violations.
Detectives spent much of early Sunday recreating the fatal motorcycle crash on Route 690 in Lysander, near the Seneca River. It happened just before 3am. The road going northbound toward Oswego County was closed all morning, for the investigation.
Investigators say the truck driver, 50 year old Hezekiah Gray, from Orlando Florida, was apparently trying to go south on 690 but mistakenly got into the northbound lanes. They say he was in the process of making an illegal u-turn across the four lane section of the highway when the motorcycle approached, and crashed into the passenger side of the trailer. Gray is ticketed for failure to obey a traffic control device, driving the wrong way on a one-way roadway, and making an improper u-turn.
When the investigation is complete, the files will be turned over to the District Attorney's office for further reviews.
