ORISKANY FALLS -- Steven Centore, 26, of Augusta Solsville Rd. in Oriskany Falls was arrested twice in four days, both times displaying behavior consistent with the use of the synthetic drug bath salts.
Oneida Sheriffs say the first arrest happened on July 10 in Munnsville, when Centore was described as acting disoriented and paranoid, saying that people were chasing him. He was charged with Criminal Trespass, arraigned and sent to Madison County Jail.
The second arrest happened on Saturday around 7:15am in Waterville, NY. Sheriffs say Centore was seen on the roof of his mobile home, throwing items and yelling that he had a man trapped in the chimney. A deputy on the scene was able to safely convince Centore to get off the roof, and a search of the residence found no one trapped in the chimney. The only people in the trailer at the time were Centore's girlfriend and her 2-year-old son. Centore was detained and complained of injuries he sustained from jumping off the roof before deputies arrived. A small containeer of a substance labled "Best Glass Cleaner" was found on the roof, which was Centore's, who said he purchased it at Tebb's Head Shop, which was submitted for analysis.
After more investigation, the sheriffs say that Centore arrived home around 6:30am that day, in an agitated, enraged state of mind and caused damage to the plumbing and front and rear doors of the residence. He also had pulled away the skirting around the trailer, so he could crawl underneath looking for the same man he said was trapped in the chimney. Police say his observed and reported behavior was consistent with the use of bath salts.
At 8:00am that same day, a resident in the area said that it appeared as though a rabid animal went through his vehicle, and that items had been stolen from inside the vehicle as well. After further investigation, it was determined Centore was responsible for the theft and was in possession of the stolen items.
Centore was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in the City of Utica by Oriskany Falls Ambulance for evaluation and treatment for drug injestion as well as injuries sustained from jumping off the roof.
Upon release from the hospital, Centore was arrested and charged with misdemeanor offenses of Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Centore was arraigned in the Town of Augusta Court, and was sent to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail. Additional charges are pending.
