CNY leaders announced new effort to clean up litter along Syracuse highways

SYRACUSE -- Central New York community leaders announced a new collaborative effort to clean up litter along the highways in Syracuse.

They are working with the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office to roll out an awareness campaign.

The new clean up effort will include scheduled clean ups on sections of the highways. Some lanes may be closed off during the clean ups.

Local law enforcement will be stepping up the enforcement of current littering laws. The current penalty for littering is a fine of up to $350 or community service up to 10 hours for littering for the first offence. Subsequent violations carry a penalty of a fine up to a $700 or community service up to 15 hours.
