SYRACUSE (AP) -- Syracuse police are investigating the shooting of a 19-year-old man with what appears to be a shotgun blast of bird shot.

Police say Shateak Allen of Syracuse was hit by 20-25 small projectiles on the 100 block of McKinnley Avenue shortly after 9:00 p.m. Tuesday. He was hit in the legs and back and was driven to Upstate University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses tell police that the shot appeared to be fired from across the street from 123 McKinnley Avenue, and there were numerous children playing in the area at the time.

An investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at 442-5222. They say all calls will be kept confidential.
