LOS ANGELES -- The Primetime Emmy nominations have been announced in Los Angeles by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

The 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented Sept. 23 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and airing live on ABC.

Nominees for the for best television comedy series are: "The Big Bang Theory," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Girls," "Modern Family," "30 Rock" and "Veep."

Nominees for the best television drama series are: "Boardwalk Empire," "Breaking Bad," "Downton Abbey," "Game of Thrones," "Homeland" and "Mad Men."

Nominees for the best television miniseries or movie are: "American Horror Story," "Game Change," "Hatfields & McCoys," "Hemingway & Gellhorn," "Luther" and "Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia."

Nominees for best variety series are: "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" on Comedy Central, "The Colbert Report" on Comedy Central, "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO, "Saturday Night Live" on NBC, "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on ABC, and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on NBC.

Nominees for best actor in a television drama series are: Steve Buscemi, "Boardwalk Empire"; Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad"; Michael C. Hall, "Dexter"; Hugh Bonneville, "Downton Abbey"; Damian Lewis, "Homeland"; and Jon Hamm, "Mad Men."

Nominees for best actress in a television drama series are: Glenn Close, "Damages"; Michelle Dockery, "Downton Abbey"; Julianna Margulies, "The Good Wife"; Kathy Bates, "Harry's Law"; Claire Danes, "Homeland"; and Elisabeth Moss, "Mad Men."

Nominees for best actor in a television comedy series are: Larry David, "Curb Your Enthusiasm"; Jon Cryer, "Two and a Half Men"; C.K Louie, "Louis"; Jim Parsons, "The Big Bang Theory"; Don Cheadle, "House Of Lies"; and Alec Baldwin, "30 Rock."

Nominees for best actress in a television comedy series are: Zooey Deschanel, "New Girl"; Lena Dunham, "Girls"; Edie Falco, "Nurse Jackie"; Amy Poehler, "Parks and Recreation"; Tina Fey, "30 Rock"; Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "Veep"; and Melissa McCarthy, "Mike & Molly."
