GEDDES -- Car enthusiasts have been camping out all week for the Syracuse Nationals Car Show, running from Friday, July 20th-Sunday, July 22nd.

Many who arrived early have been visiting local businesses and attractions. "We've been checking out the Erie Canal, actually," said Judy Vaugh from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

One woman camping out since Sunday has frequented several places in the area. "We have a great time and go all the way up to Camping World and spend money," said Gilda Hendershot. "Go to Walmart and spend money. Go to Baldwinsville and spend money. Just have a great time."

People who camp out early for the car show bring business to area stores.

"It's not just a car show," said Syracuse Nationals Director Robert O'Connor. "It's all of Central New York, what it has to offer."

One vendor is hoping some of that money finds its way into his pocket. "This is the biggest show that we do, as far as the number of people here," said Rick Griffith, who sells antique car parts and collectibles. "So, if we're going to make any money, this is the one we're going to make it at. You know, we just hope and keep our fingers crossed, basically."

The event also features 64 airbrush artists who are making one-of-a-kind pieces with all proceeds going to the McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Center in Syracuse.

The event is expected to draw more than 80,000 people and feature nearly 8,000 cars. Some guests will be coming from as far away as Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand.

Adult tickets for the event are $17 at the gate.
