ITHACA -- A 16-month-old baby fell out of a third flood window at Fall Haven Apartments in Ithaca Thursday evening.

Police say the baby’s mother had left the room for a moment to prepare a bottle when the baby fell through an open screened window. The window was less than a foot above the living room floor.

The baby fell about 14-feet and landed in a grassy area below.

Officials say that when they arrived the baby girl was conscious, crying and alert. Family and neighbors were attending to her.

The baby was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment.

The investigation is continuing but police say it appears that the fall was accidental.
