TOWN OF MORAVIA, CAYUGA COUNTY -- Alcohol and high speed contributed to the crash that ejected all four passengers from the car that rolled over, in the Town of Moravia, Wednesday night.
Cayuga County Sheriff's deputies say Matthew Pidgeon, 21, of Auburn, was driving too fast when he lost control of his Chevy Impala on State Route 38a near Sayles Corner Road shortly before 9:00 p.m. .
As he was rounding a notoriously dangerous curve, the car went off the road, and rolled over.
Pidgeon, and three teenage passengers, were all thrown from the vehicle. Right now, the teens are recovering at Upstate University Medical Hospital in Syracuse. They are expected to be okay.
Pidgeon, meanwhile, was treated and released at Auburn Community Hospital.
He now faces a slew of charges, including Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Driving While Intoxicated, and two other traffic violations: failure to keep right, and and Failure to reduce speed on a curve. He was arraigned Thursday evening.
Deputies say the teens were on their way back from a party in the Town of Niles, where there was underage drinking.
The investigation continues.
