SYRACUSE -- The Clay woman who was accused of murdering and dumping her newborn baby in a dumpster in January 2011 was sentenced to 13 years in prison plus an additional 2 and a half years post-release supervision Monday morning.
Nicole DeJaynes pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter earlier this month.
DeJaynes has maintained that she is innocent and in court Monday she reiterated that she did not suffocate the baby. She said her baby was stillborn.
"Everybody loves a monster .but I'm not a monster. I'm a human being who was faced with fear in a traumatic circumstance. I didn't know how to handle, but I loved that little girl and yes I made a poor choice," said DeJaynes. "I did not suffocate my little girl. I wish I didn't have to be taken away from my little boy to give her the justice she needs."
Baby "Isabella Marie," as she was named by Liverpool police, was found in a trash dumpster outside an apartment complex on Pearl Street on January 6, 2011. DeJaynes was arrested nine days after the baby was found, after being released from a medical facility where she was reportedly treated for complications from the pregnancy.
