NEW HARTFORD -- Police in New Hartford responded to a call for help from a woman on Oxford Road early Monday morning.
Police say a woman reported being terrorized by her live-in boyfriend, 29-year-old Anthony Phoenix.
According to police, Phoenix became enraged after an argument with the woman and pinned the victim onto the bed, holding his hand over her mouth and nose and squeezing her neck until she was unable to breathe.
Police say Phoenix allowed the women to move into another room of the apartment, but was never out of his sight.
After Phoenix fell asleep, police say the woman tried to call the police, but Phoenix had hidden the phone. When Phoenix awoke, he pinned the woman to the couch, again covering her mouth and nose while choking her.
After several hours, the woman was able to find a phone and call 911.
Police arrested Phoenix and charged him with two counts of criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and one count of second degree violation harassment.
Phoenix was additionally charged with first degree criminal contempt, a felony.
He was arraigned in Village of New Hartford Court and remanded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.
He will appear in court at a later date.
