SYRACUSE -- The last symbols of the classic Carousel Center logo are being replaced by Destiny USA signs but for many shoppers, the Syracuse mall will always be known as Carousel.

"I grew up with Carousel - always going to be it," said Emily Files from Syracuse.

This is the official rebranding week for what will now be called Destiny USA. Developer Bob Congel kicked things off on Monday by announcing that Destiny had been named as one of the largest environmentally friendly retail projects in the world. On Thursday the name will officially shift over.

There are still a lot of resentments in Syracuse about how the project did not live up to the epic scale of early designs but will still receive a twenty five year tax break but others are accepting it for what it is.

Nicole Attaei came to the new expansion to try out the Cantina Laredo restaurant on the first day it opened. She said the new expansion was exciting and was good for Syracuse.

"For people who come her for college, to the Syracuse schools, this will attract them to know they have entertainment, shopping, great restaurants here," said Attaei.

Despite the official change over, Syracuse's mega-mall may continue to be known by different names for years to come.

"Anyone who has been in Syracuse their whole life will probably say - let's go to Carousel but those who come to see the mall will consider it Destiny," said Attaei.  "But I think it will be forever Carousel in my mind."

Crews were working late Tuesday night on several stores hoping to open later this week.
