Rome woman hit by pick up truck and killed while trying to cross the street

ROME -- State Police say a woman was struck by a truck and killed when attempting to pick up her mail in front of her residence in Rome around 10am on Saturday.

Police say Olga Lastowicka, 88, of Rome, was trying to cross South Penny Road in front of her residence to retrieve her mail when she was hit by a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup truck, driven by Donald Kotary, 88, of Rome.

Lastowicka was taken to Rome Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The investigation is continuing.
