SYRACUSE -- It’s that time of year again; back to school shopping.

According to the National Retail Federation, combined elementary, high school and college back to school spending will reach $83.8 billion this year. It’s biggest consumer spending event for retailers second to winter holidays.

Stores are making back to school shopping easy for parents, so when they show up at the store to buy supplies, the school supplies list is already there.

With schools sending out the lists earlier, parents don't have to wait to shop until September.

Parents aren't the only ones filing up the cart with school supplies. Two special education teachers in DeRuyter are dipping into their own pockets to buy things for their students.

“Besides the paper and pencils and crayons and things like that, you need those education games. And you can't always afford to get them with your supply budgets, so we came to places like this to try and get good deals for things the kids will find interesting,” says Kate Kukan.

“We're out so early because the sales are so good,” says Kira Holland.
