Syracuse Police say a man tried to steal a cash register from B and B Lounge on South Avenue in Syracuse, but was caught by officers conducting a different investigation across the street.
Police say Demetrius Archie, 23, of Syracuse, entered B and B Lounge around 7:30pm on Saturday and went behind the bar, where pulled the cash register from the wall. He damaged the register and tried to flee the scene. Members of the Syracuse Police Department and the Onondaga Sheriff's Office working IMPACT, or Integrated Municipal Police Anti Crime Team, were conducting an investigation on the 300 block of South Avenue, which was directly across from B and B Lounge.
Police say patrons and employees ran out of B and B Lounge yelling to police that there was a man "robbing the place." Deputy Sheriff David Redhead and Syracuse Police Sergeant Jon Tucker immediately entered the business and encountered Archie as he tried to flee out the front door. He was taken into custody after a short struggle. Nobody was injured during the incident.
Archie was charged with second degree criminal mischief, third degree burglary, fourth degree grand larceny, and resisting arrest.
