ALBANY -- New Yorkers frustrated by telemarketers may now feel a little relief.

A new law passed by Governor Cuomo now makes it more challenging for telemarketers to contact people.

The new legislation requires telemarketers provide callers with an option of joining a do-not-call list established by the company. It also bans calls with pre-recorded messages.

Additionally, telemarketers from companies outside of New York must now register with the Department of State and comply with state laws.

Businesses in violation of the law can be banned from doing business in New York.
