ALBANY (AP) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo is meeting with farmers and manufacturers at a so-called "yogurt summit" to find ways the state can help increase New York's share of the growing trade.
The state will look at regulations and laws that could get in the way of farmers providing more milk and producers making more yogurt.
Making yogurt, especially the Greek style, has become big business in upstate New York over recent years.
Cuomo says he wants to go beyond the "endless dialogue" of talking about helping business and get into the game of fostering trade.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says New York state can become the top yogurt producer in the nation, if not the world.
The summit is being held Wednesday in Albany.
Opponents of shale gas drilling plan to protest outside the event wearing cow suits. They say the natural gas industry will drive away dairy business. Many of the landowners who want to lease land for drilling are dairy farmers who say the gas income will help them keep their farms afloat.
