OSWEGO -- Police discovered synthetic drugs at three head shops in Oswego in a sweep of local head shops.
Oswego City Police executed simultaneous search warrants on five businesses Wednesday. Police searched Bodified on West Bridge Street, Heagerty’s Hot Spot on West First Street, Smoker’s Choice on State Route 104 and on West Seneca Street, and Xtreme Underground on West Bridge Street.
The seized material will be sent to a crime lab for testing before any potential related charges are filed.
Officials say the investigation began as a result of New York State Department of Health’s new regulations to crack down on the increasingly widespread use of bath salts and synthetic drugs that went into effect on August 7.
Police arrested Kimbery Reed, 40, Donald Robertson, 32, and Francis J. Heagerty Jr., 22. All three are charged with criminally using drug paraphernalia.
"The execution of the search warrants today are really just a part of the overall investigation. We will continue our investigation and, based on the totality of the evidence, make a determination regarding pending arrests and appropriate charges," said Oswego City Police Chief Tory L. DeClaire in a media release. "Our goal today is not to adversely impact legitimate businesses, but rather to get dangerous items off of store shelves, educate the public, and hopefully help to make Oswego a safer place."
