SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse teenager is alive and well after police say he falsely reported his own kidnapping.

According to Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan, late Thursday night 16-year-old Bobby Loper, Jr. of Syracuse was reported missing after last being seen on Butternut Street near Lodi Street. Police said Loper was witnessed walking alone and talking on his cell phone, and was thought to be headed home from Mary Street to Beecher Street.

After an all-night search, police say they located Loper unharmed at a friend’s house. They allege he sent his family and friends phony text messages saying he had been abducted and needed help. Police sent out a news release and photo to the news media and performed a search, and located the 5'7", 185 pound Loper early Friday morning.

Police have not stated if any charges will be filed against Loper.
