SYRACUSE (AP) -- New York state troopers are stepping up enforcement on the Thruway this week.

The eight-day "Operation Summer Brake" initiative to promote work zone safety starts Monday and runs through Labor Day on Sept. 3.

State troopers say they will be watching for drivers who are intoxicated, speeding, or acting aggressively as part of the expanded enforcement.

Troopers issued 838 tickets during a similar campaign last year.
