SYRACUSE -- For some of The Post-Standard's elderly readers, the reduction in home delivery to only three days a week will be a problem.
"I can't get out and get it, so I think I'll just have to do without it," said subscriber Dorothy Niedzialek.
Beginning in January, home delivery will be reduced to Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. For many seniors, however, the newspaper is their source for staying connected to the news.
"Well, it's going to be kind of hard because we don't have a computer, and we depend upon the morning newspaper for the news," said Dorothy Grossi of Camillus.
Dorothy's husband, Raymon, thinks they'll have to switch to other outlets. "Well, as long as we've got the radio and TV, I guess that'll be the next place we have to go to," said Raymon Grossi.
Regardless of age, winter weather may stop some from driving out for a newspaper. "It'll be a choice, like those winter days," said Gary Barnaba of Syracuse. "I'm pretty sure I wouldn't dig myelf out to go get the newspaper when I can get it on television or get it online."
Beginning in January, a smaller edition of The Post-Standard will come out on days not scheduled for home delivery. That edition, however, may be cut by the end of 2013 after review by new parent company, Syracuse Media Group.
