SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse Common Council voted Monday afternoon to reject a bond ordinance for the city to purchase new electronic parking meters.

The wireless network within the current meters will become obsolete in late November, rendering the meters unusable.

All 270 meters around the city will need new modems with updated technology in order to work properly.

A company called Parkeon sold Syracuse the meters seven years ago. The company's solution to the outdated technology is to sell the city new meters for $2.4 million. This was the cheapest quote Syracuse received.

If the meters are not updated, they will only be able to accept coin payments come November.
