MALONE (AP) -- A northern New York man has admitted killing his father, whose body was found buried behind the house they shared near the Canadian border.

The Press-Republican of Plattsburgh reports that 24-year-old Dale Jarvis Jr. pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree manslaughter, telling a Franklin County judge he hit 48-year-old Dale Jarvis Sr. on the head with a sledgehammer during a fight over a video game at their Chateaugay home.

He had been charged with second-degree murder. District Attorney Derek Champagne says he agreed to the plea bargain because of the circumstances of the fight and history of violence between the two men.

The elder Jarvis was last seen in February. His body was found in July.

His son faces 5 to 25 years in prison when he's sentenced Nov. 13.
