SYRACUSE -- A traffic alert for commuters in Syracuse: Interstate 690 westbound closed at 9am Friday morning for bridge work. Rush hour caused headaches, but the real concern is traffic jams as football fans head from the eastern suburbs to the Dome for Saturday afternoon's game.  Syracuse Police advise taking 481 South to the Brighton exit as an alternative.

The state DOT shut down the highway between Thompson Road and Teall Avenue so that crews can repair the bridge over Peat Street.

Its expected to reopen on Monday afternoon, but will shut down again next Friday, and then again for two long weekends in October.

Syracuse Police have issued a traffic warning to expect delays in the city especially along the detour route, Erie Boulevard.

Traffic was moving slowly on Burnet Avenue on Friday morning, as drivers realized the on-ramp to 690 West was blocked and looked for other routes.

"It's a pain," says Mandy Calabria, who was driving through the area. "It's more of a nuisance than anything."

Driver Angela Pudney tried to look on the bright side.

"It's a huge pain, but it's good because they're improving the roads," says Pudney.

The road is expected to reopen around noon on Monday.
