Syracuse Police are now trying to identify a badly burned body, discovered after what was first called a brush fire near downtown Syracuse.

Firefighters were called to the 100 block of Catherine Street, near Sparkytown Restaurant, about 11:30 Friday night, with the street closed off until early Saturday morning.   Investigators say the area, under 690 near the 81 interchange, was engulfed in flames when they arrived.

So far, the victim is unidentified.  Police say an autopsy was conducted, and they know the victim is a male.  They say he died of fire related injuries, including burns and smoke inhalation.  There are no other signs of foul play.

Anyone who can help in the investigation is asked to call Syracuse Police at 442-5222.
