SYRACUSE (AP) -- Authorities have identified the body found by firefighters after a blaze under a Syracuse bridge as that of a 40-year-old homeless man.

Syracuse fire officials tell the Syracuse Post-Standard that Timothy Wilkin died in the fire that started just after 11:30 p.m. Friday when flames spread from a barbecue grill used to heat the area under the bridge where some of the city's homeless gathered.

The bridge is near the Route 81 and Interstate 690 interchange.

Authorities said Wilkin died of burns and smoke inhalation.
